Ep 2. Phinix – Transforming waste into new wearables
In this episode, eFM speaks to another MaGiC GAP 2018 Cohort ,Pamela. Pamela is a Manila born young entrepreneur who owns a fashion social enterprise known as Phinix. Phinix transforms textile wastes into higher value products such as footwear, accessories and new fabric. The social company aims to achieve the triple bottom line ; Planet, People and Profit and have social impact in mind in every level of operations fom collecting waste materials, employing persons with disabilities to weave materials and employing local shoemakers to produce their products.
Pamela, who has started her journey in social entrepreneurship since she was 17, studied Clothing Technology in University. After discovering she was unable to send her clothes to be recycled anywhere, it inspired her to incorporate a social enterprise that gives new life to unused clothing products. Their products have been custom made shoes, but is now moving towards retails will be launching their line with Air Asia in October.
The name Phinix was inspired from Harry Potter – The Order of Phoenix and the mythical creature that rises from the ashes of its predecessor to indicate something new growing from something old. However, she has decided to utilize the spelling Phinix is to represent Phillipines – (Phi).
