This rather new social enterprise is an alumni of MaGIC’s Social Enterprise Accelerator and are empowering refugee families from Myanmar, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Palestine through the F&B industry. The Picha Project provides these families a stable source of income and brings their wonderful cuisine to Malaysians through their catering business.
Suzanne discusses the challenges in running a social enterprise and the balance between helping the refugee families by improving their family income as well as the sustainability of The Picha Project. This episode also includes the founders sharing the difficulties in legislation with regards to refugee employment and pitfalls in their business since it was founded in May 2016.
The name Picha comes from its namesake, a small refugee boy that the three founders once tutored during their university days.
